LED Linear Lights
LED linear lights come as complete lighting units that fit seamlessly into a building’s structure; creating high visibility, glare free and natural looking light. Offering all the advantages of LED lighting, these units are an ideal alternative to fluorescent lamps. Perhaps the most important advantage is the energy savings that LED lighting generally provides, because the technology uses considerably less energy and the products last much longer than the traditional fluorescent tubes.

There are several types of LED linear lights available in the market. However, the products have a similar basic construction. An LED linear lamp comprises of a very small chip that is made from semi conductor material. The number of chips depends on a product’s design or size. The LED lamps are set in an enclosed lens that includes a heat sink, which refers to a heat conducting material that absorbs heat through convection or conduction. This process is important because it prevents the lamps from becoming overheated and producing inferior light output. The lamps are placed on a circuit board that includes controls, which allow operations such as pre-set timing and dimming. A complete LED linear light structure is known as a luminary.
The heat sink and casing that houses the LED lamps in linear lights is usually constructed from strong materials such as aluminum, stainless steel and polycarbonate. All materials incorporated in LED linear lights are high performance, with superior heat dissipation qualities, protection from damage and durability. The mounting pads provide a strong, solid base on which to attach to a surface securely.
Linear lighting products also come with a body that can be rotated up to 360 degrees to adjust the illumination when needed. The encasements are coated with a durable epoxy primer and a powder topcoat that protects the lamps from corrosion and abrasion and creates a sleek finishing. A variety of finishing is available and these include white, black, bronze, platinum bronze and bronze.
Accessibility to the interior of the lights’ lens is easy and one does not have to dismount the lamp because the lens is detachable and easy to slide back into position. This makes maintenance and lamp replacement quite easy.
Manufacturers of high quality LED linear lights subject the products to rigorous testing to ensure that the finished products achieve a balance between high efficiency and visual comfort. The products are made to resemble natural light with light color and temperatures varying from 2,800K, 3,000K, 35000K and 4,000K to 5,7000K. Some of the lights are dimmable and can be linked with up to 100 additional lamps for convenient operation. In addition, these products come with power surge protection features that protect the lamps from damage caused by electrical power fluctuations.
With an average lifespan of about 80,000 hours, LED linear lights are a good choice for replacing fluorescent or incandescent light bulbs in both commercial and residential applications. LED lights are popular for under cabinet and shelf display lighting and outdoor lighting in homes. The lights produce brilliant and evenly distributed light that enhances the display of merchandise and lights up business premises for adequate visibility. The lights also enhance safety and security in stairwells, hallways and the outdoors.
Products that are dimmable and those with the RGB color changing technology are often used in restaurants, ballrooms and luxury properties. Because of the superior heat dissipation in LED lights, minimal radiation and heat is produced and this makes the products ideal for lighting cold storage facilities.
