Double Tube CFL Bulbs

CFLs (compact fluorescent lamps) come in various shapes and sized, and those who have two parallel tubes are known as “double tube CFL bulbs” or “Dulux lamps”. Basically, these lamps are created to be suitable for a wide range of applications: they are made to fit into various lamps, task lights, wall lights as well as recessed ceiling lights.

These energy-efficient lamps use pure tri-phosphor lamp tube, thus the low light recession and the high rendering index. They can provide a soft green light that has limited effects on the surround environment, they start instantaneously and most of them have a special layer that is designed to protect the eyesight. Moreover, another important advantage of the double tube CFL lamps is that unlike other similar products, they do not make any bothersome glimmer or noise whatsoever, and this makes them perfect for household appliances.

These bulbs radiate a spectral power distribution, and this is what makes them different from the incandescent lamps. The phosphor formulations determine the colour of the light that is emitted by the bulb: the bulb can have a “soft white” color, a “warm white” color and such. The double tube CFL lamps are made from two parts: a curved (or folded) tube that is designed to fit in the space of the incandescent bulb, and a compact electronic ballast located at the bottom of the bulb.

There are several details that make CFLs vary from the classic incandescent lamps: one of them is that they provide the same amount of visible light with only one fifth of the power they use, and they are designed to last up to 10 times longer than incandescent lamps. Nonetheless, the double tube CFL lamps contain mercury this is why you must be very careful when disposing of them.

First and foremost, it must be mentioned that double tube CFL bulbs have a shorter average rated life compared to other types of CFLs (between 10,000 and 12,000 hours) – even so, they are highly efficient and they provide bright, intense light. They require very little maintenance and they provide excellent color rendering. Other important features are the high efficiency energy saving of up to 80% and the very low heat. These bulbs have a design that is suitable for most applications, this is why they are widely used as the main lighting systems.

Also, they are available in a variety of wattages (5 Watt. 7 Watt, 9 Watt, 13 Watt) and color temperatures (which can range between 2700k and 5000k, based on the wattage). The double tube CFL bulbs also come in 2 pin and 4 pin versions, and the approximate lumens vary between 210 for the 5 Watt bulb and 700 lumens for the 13 Watt bulb. Taking the 13 Watt double tube CFL bulb as an example, this can efficiently replace a 60 Watt standard light bulb – it is a cost-efficient solution for those who want to lower their energy consumption, thus save money by reducing their energy bills.
